this would n ot have been a project if I had a better paying job. someone else would have done it but the wife wants what the wife wants and if I can;t buy it, I have to do it myself.  Now the wife wants another bedroom.....

LOL dude I made mine help tile our back splash, kept her quiet for a month. Their opinion changes when they see the amount of work it takes.

i did the backsplash on my own . She helped paint the cabinets. We used this stuff called chalk paint (which is also what I used for the island) she was quiet for a while after that one but the chalk paint was relatively easy and covered well with little prep required.

You're going about this all wrong. When she sees how good a job you do on this, then it escalates. "But that other project turned out so nice!" she'll say. You're hosed, man.

I kinda works the other way.  I wanna do something and she says no it's takes too much of your time.  When I wanted to build a wine cabinet, I waited until she left the house and knocked down a wall.  When she can home I said I could build the cabinet or leave it with the big hole

What did you use for the other countertops?

I have to say I really like the combination, looks pretty much exactly like how I’d like to do mine if I ever get the motivation to actually start fixing this place up again. Kind of stalled out after about 6 months.

my wife came up with the idea for the white island. We both wanted green cabinets. the island counter is walnut and the counter on the green cabinets is some type of granite. I don’ t think it would have been my first choic e of color but we got a great deal on the slab and it matched the colors of our kitchen so I couldn’ t pass it up.

That and the white subway tile backsplash, classic look.

in our last house we got a marble tile mosaic that was like $10 a sq ft. This stuff was something like $1. 39 a sq ft. I personally like how this one looks better. I think the grout cost more than  the tile.

Can’t beat that, and subway tile kitchens have been a thing since the turn of the 20th century, so you know its going to age well.
